James - RYA Yachtmaster Theory

Wahey! Just a quick post to say well done to James for passing his RYA Yachtmaster Offshore theory exams. Studying (well, I say studying) for this involves covering all areas related to skippering a yacht offshore, culminating in three separate exams - COLREGs, meteorology and navigation.

Of course, James managed to pass each exam with pretty much 100%, top of his class.

James studied with a group of friends mainly from our sailing club, and the tutor was somebody James knew. James had previously tried to complete the certification via a correspondence course, but felt he just didn’t have the self-motivation to study regularly. Working in a group really suited him: they covered the syllabus over three weekends, with a few weeks in between each section to go away and revise at home. Well, James kind of skipped the latter part - all the more irritating that he passed with best marks. Anyway, I’m not bothered; he still has my RYA Yachtmaster Ocean theory to beat… now that was a *&£^$*…
